Persona-Based Power BI Training
We hate training workshops where only a few hours are relevant to us. We end up doing admin work, browsing socials and leaving frustrated. That’s why our Power BI training is designed differently.
We focus on the essential personas every organisation needs for a successful Power BI ecosystem: Fabric Admin, Model Designer, Report Author, and Report Consumer.
Why Our Persona-Based Training Rocks
Targeted Learning: Each role gets exactly the training they need, right from the start.
Stay Engaged: No more wasting time on irrelevant content. Every minute is engaging, useful and hands-on.
Always Up-to-Date: All content is continuously updated with the newest and latest of Power BI.
Right Balance: I strike the perfect balance between slides, demos, and interactive workshops.
Open Script: A script gives the needed guardrails. Do we stick to the script, not always!

Why choose Laz for Power BI Training?
To run a training workshop, you need three elements. First, apassionate expert who stays up-to-date with the latest. Second, a high-energy facilitator, because if the audience isn’t engaged, the learning stops. Lastly, a good story, not just "A slicer is..." – boring! This is how you lose an audience.

The answers to your questions.
One thing that we all value is our time, and rightfully so. We are already busy with our day-to-day work and personal lives. It’s very frustrating to take time out of our busy calendars only to attend a training workshop that is not relevant or only partially relevant to us. For this reason, I have decided to split my Power BI training modules by Persona. There are four key personas that every organisation must have at least one person aligned with for a successful Power BI ecosystem. It’s also possible for an individual to belong to multiple personas. The personas are: Admin, Dataset Designer, Report Author, and Report Consumer.
Both! I always prefer in-person training; however, these can be run remotely or in-person and still offer the necessary value in a fun and engaging way.
- - Report Consumer: 0.5 days
- - Report Author: 1 day
- - Model Designer: 1 day
- - Admin: 0.5 days
All participants of the training will receive an easy-to-follow, in-depth PDF document that details all the steps we follow in the workshops, the slides, the datasets we use, and an additional handout.
If you want a full-day training by PowerPoint, this is not for you. As much as I believe slides are a great way to put a point across, a full day of this never works. I start with slides, move quickly into demos, and the majority of the day is a hands-on workshop. This is what I find to be the best way for people to really consume the learning.
- Report Consumer: Targeting those with no development responsibilities, this comprehensive half-day interactive workshop is designed to empower participants to become skilled report consumers. Attendees will learn how to access the Power BI Service, navigate reports, and use analytical features such as drill-down and drill-through capabilities. Additionally, they will become proficient in utilising slicers and filters, exporting data, and leveraging collaboration features like commenting.
- Report Author: This training programme is a comprehensive 1-day interactive workshop focused on empowering participants to become skilled report authors. It aims to equip users with the knowledge and skills necessary to create visually appealing, insightful, and interactive reports using existing data. Participants learn about data visualisation and storytelling, including topics like choosing the right visuals, deriving data stories from reporting requirements, and implementing advanced features like bookmarks, drill-through, and report-level tooltips.
- Model Designer: This 1-day interactive workshop is designed for participants who will be responsible for creating datasets (data models) from various data sources. These datasets will be used by report authors to develop their reports. The focus is on creating a coherent and accurate semantic model, often referred to as the “single version of the truth.” Participants learn essential tasks like data transformation, selecting appropriate data connections, aligning data structures to star schemas, creating relationships, and writing DAX formulas.
- Admin: Geared towards Fabric administrators, previously known as Power BI Service administrators, this comprehensive half-day workshop focuses on developing the knowledge and skills required for effective administration. Fabric administrators have a crucial role in controlling organisation-wide Power BI settings and admin features. This training covers tasks such as balancing feature restrictions and user empowerment, implementing security and access controls, participating in data governance discussions, customising the Fabric tenancy, and monitoring and optimising Power BI usage.
Absolutely! During our initial free consultation, we can discuss your requirements. However, keep in mind that if you want to use your own dataset, I will first go through it in detail with you to ensure it’s vast enough to showcase all the necessary elements of Power BI. Also, with experience from a consultancy background, I’ve worked with clients from all industries, understanding their unique challenges. My training can be tailored to address the specific needs of each organisation.
